LATIN CHARACTERS ON SMARTPHONES: ITALY AND CHINA CLOSER THANKS TO TECHNOLOGY

Latin and Chinese languages, namely the relationship between Europe and China at the time of collaboration between Matteo Ricci and Xu Guangqi in the 17th century is the theme of the conference which will be held October 27 in Shanghai entitled “Alphabet and Technology: the daily encounter between East and West. “The event was organized by the Consulate General of Italy in the Chinese city in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute, the Institute “Latinitas Sinica, Centre for Latin Language and Culture, BFSU” and the Xuhui District. This seminar shows how this activity has contributed to the development of modern technology, through the cultural relationship between Europe and China. Today, the Chinese using the Latin alphabet (Pinyin) on smartphones to write Chinese characters (Hanzi) with a considerable saving of time. The conference-which is part of the program of the Italian Presidency of the European Union – will be opened by the Consul General of Italy Stefano Beltrame. The event will include European and Chinese teachers in Shanghai and Beijing.
